Herbs and Their Meanings
In 2020, I began to work with herbs. I researched all of the herbs in my garden, and was fascinated to find their health benefits and spiritual meanings. The metaphysical properties of herbs are fascinating, and they have a long history. This research evolved into learning about teas, too, and drinking teas based on how I’m feeling.
Herbs are so incredibly powerful, and we can use them in teas, as incense, and cooking. Common household spices have meanings dating back thousands of years to the Ancient Greeks.
Oregano was revered by the Ancient Greeks, as they associated it with love, good luck, and happiness. The Greeks believed that the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, created this herb. Oregano is also said to relieve anxiety and promote prophetic dreams. At Ash and Jules, we put oregano into our herb bundles. Oregano is a cleansing and protective herb that encourages peace and happiness.
Rosemary is also associated with the Goddess Aphrodite, and was used by the Greeks and Romans. Rosemary can dispel negative energy. A way to use Rosemary for protection is hanging a dried bundle by the front door. Rosemary is also said to help heal the nervous system, and soothe depression and anxiety.
Peppermint is an herb of abundance, both literally and spiritually. Plant it away from others, as it will take over your garden. It is a highly protective and cleansing herb. Working with the Third Eye Chakra, peppermint is known to be used in dreamwork. Peppermint is also known to help with focus.
Pineapple Sage is a go-to for protection and cleansing. This herb helps remove negative energy. It’s also said to be incredibly healing. And yes, it really does smell like pineapple! Pineapple sage promotes abundance and intuition. Another herb that’s great for dreamwork and psychic protection.
Lavender is commonly known for helping with anxiety. This herb represents calmness, grace, and purity. Connected to the Crown Chakra, lavender can help guide you to your higher purpose. The flower can help you feel a deeper connection to the universe. Lavender is also excellent for dreamwork.
Lemon Balm is an herb of happiness and healing. Another herb connected to Aphrodite, so it can attract love. The lemony smell is soothing. A little trick I learned in childhood is that if you rub the leaves on your skin the citrusy oils will keep bugs away. Lemon Balm is also has antihistamine properties.
Chamomile calms the nervous and digestive systems. Chamomile tea is great for an upset stomach. Chamomile is all about prosperity, happiness, love, and peace. A great herb for calmness and meditation.
Best,
Jules
